VAIO | KACHI-IRO SPECIAL EDITION
The one and only, made in the Japanese tradition.
The History of Kachi
In ancient Japan, the color was called “kochi-iro,” or “kochi colored.” It originated from the word “katsu” which means “hitting with a mortar” to embed indigo dye deeply into fabric. It is said that samurais preferred this color for good luck because it led to “kachi” or “victory,” and often used it on their armor as a “kochi-iro” or “color of victory.” As the corporate color of VAIO is also a deep, dark indigo, it symbolizes our pride and honor to have inherited the mantle of Japanese manufacturing.
The unidirectional carbon top case used in VAIO balances beauty and durability. Using a propriety KACHI-IRO transparent paint to highlight and accentuate the carbon mesh fibers, light refracts in unique patterns beneath its glossy, lacquer-like finish.
CARBON FIBER TOP CASE STRUCTURE
Unidirectional carbon’s strength as a material greatly increases if layers of the material are overlapped at opposing angles. This creates a unique texture (see left photo) of alternately woven fibers that withstands many kinds of stresses, including twisting motions. The UV gloss finish applied the KACHI-IRO Special Edition laptop provides a scratch resistant, luxurious feel.
HOW THIS UNIQUE COLOR WAS ACHIEVED ON ALUMINUM
The palm rest’s textured surface was anodized using a variety of naturally derived indigo pigments to microscopically penetrate the aluminum and provide a rich and unique appearance.
ELEGANT BRILLIANCE THAT LETS THE COLOR SHINE THROUGH
Kachi-iro has been used since ancient times as a decoration on armor as a good omen before battle. And since the VAIO KACHI-IRO Special Edition laptop with its golden logo is a modern business person’s tool, we believe it’s sparkling indigo dyed top case which packs the same power of good luck.
PACKAGE AND ACCESSORIES ARE ALSO KACHI-IRO COLORED.
Each laptop comes in a kachi-iro decorative box with the VAIO logo. Only the best cleaning accessories for VAIO so we have included Toray’s advanced technology “Ultra Suede R” cloth which is made in Japan and dye in an exclusive color.

What is VAIO TruePerformance"
Intel CPUs, such as the Core i7 adopted by VAIO, have “Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0” installed, which enhances performance at peak usage. However, the period during which maximum performance can be maintained is limited by power consumption and temperature, and the performance will degrade. “VAIO TruePerformance” is technology designed to maintain higher performance for a longer period of time by increasing CPU power limits and more efficiently eliminating heat.
